Naming our farm was a task that required considerable thought and consideration. Just as we consider the meaning, the sound and the implications of the name when we name our children, we did the same when it came to naming our farm.
We decided on Providence Pastures for several reasons.
The word "Providence" comes from the root word "provide". It means:
1. A manifestation of the care and superintendence which God exercises over his creatures; an event ordained by divine direction.
2. providence literally means foresight, but is generally used to denote God's preserving and governing all things.
Since we believe God provided this farm for us in answer to our prayers, and we believe that we are here by 'divine direction', it only seems appropriate that Providence be part of the name.
The second part - Pastures - refers to the way we farm. We raise our livestock, from chickens to cows (and anything else we might acquire in the future) on pasture. And that's something we have plenty of here. ; )
So that's why our farm is named "Providence Pastures". |
