Providence Pastures Farm has recently acquired a flock of Katahdin Sheep for breeding stock consisting of 11 Ewes and 2 Rams.  We will have a limited number of lambs available this year.  If you are interested, please contact us.

Katahdin Sheep are "hair sheep" and do not produce a fleece.  Instead, they grow hair, much like that of a goat, and shed it in the Spring as it gets warmer.  Because there is no fleece, there is less lanolin -- the oil that protects a sheep's fleece coat.  The lanolin is what produces a mutton taste or what some refer to as an "off flavor" in lamb.  Katahdin sheep produce meat that has a mild flavor.  We're looking forward to sharing this new offering with you!
